Fire destroys Opotiki home

Fire has destroyed a property in Opotiki today.

Opotiki fire brigade were called to the Union street address just after 10am this morning.

A witness who lives a street away from the address said it was just alot of black smoke coming from the house.

"We were just sitting on the deck and all we saw was black smoke in the sky, and then we looked  out the gate and saw our neighbours running towards the property"

"Its a shock, the man that lived there is a good old man, always making fried bread and gives us his fejoas and it's just sad"

Two appliances from Opotiki attended the fire.

Police and fire safety officers are investigating.
