A blessing and opening ceremony was held this morning to open the new centre on Kakahora drive.

The new Library and Arts complex is now open to the public and its vison is to provide the community with  the means to begin that voyage of discovery, of knowledge, information and inspiration. says Arts and Culture manager Wayne Marriott.

"We have had our ups and downs,  and problems that just seemed impossible to solve but we did it. I believe this is going to be a lasting legacy that is inter-generational" Wayne says.

The centre will play host to some of New Zealands and local artists such as well know New Zealand photographer  Brian Brake.

"His exhibition, 'The Tasman Years' in the main Opus gallery tells the story of Kawerau's paper mill in its boom days. We also have a few local artists such as Gina Matchitt's work, Maorified and also local  Jamie Boynton work, Maori Ora Wayne says.

The Library and Exhibition  centre will be open to the public from today onwards.
