Opotiki forestry worker killed by a tree
A man has been killed by a tree near Opotiki.
The accident happened in the Houpoto Forest near Opotiki.
Senior Sergeant Richard Miller of the Opotiki police says the man died when the tree he was working on fell awkwardly and landed on the man.
"The man was an experienced forestry worker and this appears to be just an accident. However we will need to investigate furtherer alongside the Department of Labour" Mr Miller says.
No-one else was injured in the incident.
The identity of the man will not be released until the next of kin and family have been notified.
