Two charged over boating accident that killed their best mate.

Two men charged over boating accident on Lake Ohakuri.
Between Taupo and Rotorua, 
Two people have been charged over a boating accident that killed a mate on Lake Ohakuri, south west of Rotorua.

Rotorua truck driver, Andrew Wroe, 36, was killed when the ski biscuit he was on collided with a boat on the lake on January 2.

Rotorua police Detective Sergeant John Wilson said the accident was investigated by  police, Maritime NZ, and Waikato Regional Council harbourmaster's before being referred  to the Police legal section. 


"Following a t
horough investigation and careful analysis of the circumstances the two men responsible for the vessels have been charged." 



Both men, from Rotorua and Taupo, aged 44 and 35, were the drivers of the two boats involved, he said.


The two men have been  charged with using a vessel in a manner so as to cause unnecessary danger to any person or to property, under section 65 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994.


They would appear in the Rotorua District Court on July 2.
