Placards and Flags have dawned the city streets of Tauranga today in protest against the governments bid to sell off New Zealand state owned assets.
Today's protest is apart of the national day of action against asset sales that has seen protesters take to the streets through out New Zealand.
Miriam Pierard, Aotearoa NZ Is Not For Sale spokes person says today is about Aotearoa uniting together as a nation and to tell this government this is not what we want as a country!
"It is unfair to sell assets that currently belong to all New Zealanders to a small minority who can to afford to buy shares,"
"Only 10% of New Zealanders invest in the stock market, and the rest of us struggle to pay our power bills that will only rise as these SOEs are sold and shareholders will demand increased profit. The bill has passed in the House, yet the majority of New Zealanders oppose the Government's plans. We will make it clear to potential buyers that if they purchase shares, they do so against the wishes of most of the population."
We will not be divided like our assets. We will be united, we will not be silenced, we will resist this together.
The Tauranga protest caused major traffic delays as they marched towards the town centre.
Police say no consents or traffic management was in place and were not advised of today's protest.
Police say expect delays throughout the centre of town this afternoon as protesters slowly make their way home.
