Flooding forces evacuations and closed SH2
Emergency services in the Western Bay of Plenty were kept busy lastnight.
Police reported a motorist had to abandon his car after it became trapped by rising flood waters.
The Katikati Fire Service says 10 people including elderley were evacuated from their homes.
A Motorist travelling on SH2 towards Katikati described the situation as 'scary'
"Though it was dark you can just make out the huge amount of water everywhere. It is scary!." she said.
Police said detours were put in place via SH29 but SH2 was later reopened.
