Whakatane man dies after being struck by car
The accident happened just after 8pm on Commerce Street.
Reports suggest the man was walking across the road when he was hit by a small 4wd vehicle towing a trailer.
The Daily Post reports the man aged in his 90's was walking back to his vehicle after band practise when he stepped out and was struck by the vehicle.
Police serious crash unit were at the scene and the road was closed for about two hours.
A spokes person for St John Ambulance said attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
His body was taken to Brent Willets Funeral services.
Whakatane Police were unavailable to comment as they were busy dealing with the incident.
