Lakes News:

More heavy rain on the way

A deep low is approaching central New Zealand and should slowly cross the South Island during Tuesday and early Wednesday. This low is forecast to bring further heavy falls to northern Westland, Buller and the western ranges of Nelson, also to eastern Bay of Plenty and a warning is in force for these areas.
This Watch is for possible significant rainfalls about the remainder of Westland, inland Canterbury and eastern Otago through to early Tuesday afternoon, and also for a period of heavy northwesterly rain about the Tararua Ranges during Tuesday. It is uncertain if rainfall amounts in these areas will reach warning levels and a Watch will be maintained for the time being.
Note, the rain has eased about Mt Taranaki and is easing in the Richmond and Bryant Ranges and no further widespread heavy falls are likely, hence the watch for these areas is lifted. Also, severe northerly gale gusts are no longer expected about southern Taranaki, inland Wanganui and Taihape and the Watch for these areas is also lifted.
Finally, although snow is forecast about the Canterbury High Country as per the latest snow advisory, no significant snowfalls are now expected below 500 metres.
MetService forecasters will continue to monitor the situation and advise people in these areas to remain up to date with the latest forecasts in case further warnings are necessary.
