Lakes News:

Cool smart tool helps SunSmart education

Exciting developments are in stall to celebrate the Cancer Society’s SunSmart mascot, Undercover Cody’s, 10th birthday.
Kids will soon be swiping, tapping and sharing SunSmart creations on a fun and educational mission to master the ever important slip, slop, slap and wrap message.
Following an updated Undercover Cody website, the free to download ‘Undercover’ app has been launched by the Cancer Society today.
The new app, which appears free in the App store as ‘Undercover’, is based on a virtual take of the paper dress-up doll game, one which every parent will fondly remember.
Using the app through an iphone or ipad, children are invited to slip on SunSmart clothes, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat and wrap on sunglasses onto Undercover Cody.
Users will have choice of wardrobe and accessories to allow for individual style and to keep loved ones safe in the sun they will be able to email them their creation with a personal reminder to be SunSmart.
However, as fashionable as the outfit may be, if it doesn’t follow all four SunSmart rules, users will not complete the game.
As well as the app, improvements to Undercover Cody’s current website include a new interactive game.
Using the app and website children will learn to become responsible for their own SunSmart behaviour.
"The Cancer Society is aware that children are high users of technology," said Cancer Society spokesperson Rachael Mounsey. We are keen to embrace new trends and offer leading edge resources so that children, parents and teachers will enjoy learning the vital SunSmart messages."
With a fan base of over 2,700 children, Undercover Cody is looking to increase his sun-savvy followers with the help of the fun and engaging app.
In addition to the website and app, Undercover Cody’s 10th year celebration includes a free roadshow that will be showing in over 150 primary schools in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty in November.
Children will be introduced to the app and new website at the roadshow.
