Baypark gets new name

Baypark, the Bay of Plenty’s largest community and sporting venue, has received new support, with ASB taking up the naming rights of the complex.

To be known as ASB Baypark, this multi-purpose facility based in Mount Maunganui incorporates the stadium, TECT Arena and the speedway, thereby providing venues for a wide range of indoor and outdoor community activities and events including concerts, premier sports games, conferences, trade shows and cultural exhibitions.

ASB Baypark is also home for many local sports leagues, from pre-school right through to adult competitions.
This new partnership continues ASB’s long standing support for New Zealand communities, says Linley Wood, ASB’s Executive General Manager for Culture and Community.
“ASB is committed to making a real difference in the communities in which we operate, so being involved with a multi-purpose, popular facility like ASB Baypark is a great opportunity for us to continue building our support in this key Bay of Plenty region,” says Ms Wood.
“We are thrilled with ASB coming on board. With over 500,000 visits per year, Baypark already plays a major role in the social and sporting lives of the community, so we look forward to working with ASB to continue to develop these facilities into a venue the community can be involved in, enjoy and be proud of,” says Ervin McSweeney, Chief Executive Officer of Baypark.
Mayor Stuart Crosbie says, “It is exciting and significant that ASB has chosen to further invest in the Bay of Plenty region, signalling a very positive future for the facility. We also acknowledge the contribution of TECT who have been a major funder and supporter of the Arena project, a facility which has already been of huge benefit to our community.”
TECT Chairman Michael Cooney said that TECT had agreed to handover its Arena naming rights to enable Tauranga City Venues Limited to access further funds to develop the Baypark complex.  “TECT saw the opportunity to encourage a quality organisation like ASB to expand its presence in this Region and their initiative to support Baypark as a benefit to our community.  TECT is pleased to have played a role in the development of the fabulous community asset that the Arena has become.”
