New wastewater system in Turangi

A new wastewater reticulation system is being installed in Turangi to prevent sewerage overflowing and improve health and safety.
Sixteen households along the Hirangi Road and Awamate (Te Awamate) Road are being connected with a sewerage system. At present, most use septic tanks, many of which overflow in winter. Some households do not have functioning septic tanks.
Taupō District Council agreed to fund the new sewerage system in the 2012-2022 Long Term Plan. The area is particularly susceptible to overflowing tanks because of the high ground water level over winter.
Construction on the new system began this month and is expected to be completed by early March. Contractor Innoflow Technologies NZ is using local company Laser Plumbing Taupō to carry out the installation work.
Funding for the work has been allocated in Council’s Annual Plan within wastewater budgets.
