Carrington on top at nationals
Olympic champion Lisa Carrington stormed to a predictable second title on the last day of the national sprint kayaking championships near Rotorua.
Carrington followed victory in the K1 500m final on Saturday with a dominant win in her specialist K1 200m at Lake Tikitapu on Sunday, comfortably holding off the challenge of two Australians.
The Whakatane 23-year-old led from the start and her time of 39.81 seconds in favourable conditions was quicker than any time she achieved during her triumphant London Olympics campaign last year. Jo Brigden-Jones headed off Hannah Davis for second place.
Australia took the honours in the men's racing, where Kenny Wallace won the K1 and K2 200m events. Wallace combined with Lachlan Tame to claim the pairs victory.
The event which doubled as the Oceania championships attracted 230 paddlers.
