Thousands lined the shore of the Tauranga Harbour yesterday to watch the worlds most luxurious ocean liner depart Tauranga.

The $993 million cruise ship, MS Queen Elizabeth  departed Tauranga yesterday afternoon after sailing in yesterday morning from Auckland on its first visit to the Bay of Plenty since it's launched in 2010.

Fares for the 36-day  Pacific cruise from Los Angeles range from  $9300 for an inside cabin and climb to $36,500 for the most luxurious suites.

The cruse ship is the second largest ship to be constructed of the Cunard cruise ships, capable of more than 2,092 passengers with a crew of more than 900.

The Queen Elizabeth  is running mate to the Queen Victoria and the Queen Mary 2.
