Town spruce up underway in Turangi

Work is about to begin on the approaches to the Turangi town centre as the first phase of a project to enhance the area gets underway. The revitalisation project is set to begin on 25 February.
The first phase of the project will begin with the redevelopment of the main entrance into the town. There will be three parts to this phase: the demolition, the roading and paving and the landscaping and street furniture installation. The cost of the revitalisation will come out of Council’s capital expenditure budget of $1.3 million over three years.
Signage is being placed at key points around the site to inform residents, visitors and passers-by about the project. The signage will include the project plan and graphics. There will also be signs warning of any hazards around the site. A timeline and project outline will be available from the Turangi Service Centre. Strategic Project Manager, Andrew Boden, will consult with businesses directly adjacent to the work site each week.
It is also hoped that the changes to the town entrance will slow traffic entering Turangi from State Highway 1 onto Pihanga Road to create a the feel of a roundabout and therefore be more welcoming.
