Crash on railway crossing on SH29

A man has been taken to Tauranga hospital with serious injuries after the ute  he was driving crashed into a
railway crossing near Baypark.

Emergency services were called to the crossing at  Te Maunga roundabout  on SH29 just after 2.30pm.

A fire communications spokesperson says the man was taken to Tauranga hospital with serious injuries.

Part of SH29 was blocked off by police and traffic was backed up  along SH29 and Maunganui Road due to the crash.

Police say an investigation into what caused the crash is underway.
