Driver of crash wanted by police

An arrest warrant has been issued for Welcome Bay teenager Ratapu Ranapia 18 after he failed to appear in Tauranga District Court.

Ratapu Ranapia 18 was arrested after the car he was driving in lost control and hit a letterbox then power box on the corner of Achilles Crescent and Victory Street in Welcome Bay on February 26, after the accident 2 people ran from the car and Ranapia left the scene in the vehicle.

Ranapia was located at an Osprey Drive address a short time later where he was found to had been drink driving.

The car was the only vehicle involved in the accident and no one was injured.
