Pilot error causes near highway landing
A pilot mistook a section of State Highway 2 between BayPark Speedway and Domain road in Tauranga today as a runway.
The aircraft got as low as 3m it is reported before realising it was a highway.
The pilot landed safely at Tauranga Airport not long after. A local police officer reported seeing the aircraft flying 'very low'.
The UK pilot is a student at Hamilton's CTC Aviation Training school.
The plane flew low enough to cause concern. The pilot arrived back at Hamilton Airport this afternoon and is undergoing interviews as to what precisely happened.
