Student rescued from Otarawairere Bay

Emergency services and  Whakatane Coastguard have rescued an injured school student from a remote Bay near Ohope.

The student was apart of a school outing  and was injured in Otarawairere Bay, between Whakatane and Ohope.

The Whakatane Coastguard along with the Whakatane Surf Lifesaving club assisted to get the student  to  Ohope Beach where paramedics were waiting.

The alarm was raised by  the school principle  just after 11am.

Whakatane Police and Whakatane Coastguard were unavailable for comment.
