Classroom fire caused by fan
An extractor fan is believed to be the cause of a fire in a classroom at Tauranga Intermediate school lastnight. Fire crews from Tauranga, Greerton and Mt Maunganui were called to the school just after 5pm.
School principal Brian Diver was called to the scene by fire fighters and told The Bop Live the fire started in the satellite block of the school which is a detachment from the Kaka Street School.
"Luckily a young boy saw smoke coming from the building and called 111." Mr Diver says.
"The classrooms extractor fan that over heated is believed to be the cause of the fire."
