Thousands join to remember
Young and old gathered side by side around the cenotaph at Mount Maunganui this morning for the Anzac dawn service. As the drizzle of the rain and as the full moon broke through the rain clouds, thousands stood to remember the many who lost their lives in the battle of war almost 100 years ago.
The silence of dawn was broken by the sounds of bag pipes and foot steps as the Anzac parade marched through the street.
Today's service was a chance to remember 18,500 New Zealanders killed in the Great War.
