Truck crash closes gorge
State Highway 2 at Athenree Gorge will be closed for 6 hours to allow a truck to be recovered from a bank,
Detours are in place from Auckland drivers should use State Highway 27 and State Highway 29 to Tauranga. For local traffic heading north or south a detour is in place along State Highway 2 via Athenree, Emerton, Seaforth and Waihi Beach Roads (reverse for southbound traffic).
NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Bay of Plenty state highways manager, Brett Gliddon, says the temporary closure is expected to be removed by 3.00pm . "In the meantime there is a well-signed detour in place."
"We will be working to have access restored through this section of SH2 as quickly as we can. We'd like to ask that motorists be patient during this time and plan their journeys around this situation to allow for short delays."
