Magnitude 6.5 quake off Tonga
A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off Tonga this morning, US seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake was recorded at 2046 GMT Saturday (8.45am NZT Sunday), 139 kilometres northwest of Neiafu. It had a depth of 205km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said based on the depth of the quake, no tsunami was expected.
