New lease on life for Senior Citizens building
At the Council meeting on 30 April, Council approved the transfer of the building and surrender of lease, and agreed to grant a new lease to the Rotary Club of Taupo Charitable Trust.
The provision of services through Age Concern, retirement villages and local iwi has reduced the need for the existence of the Senior Citizens Association. However, they are keen to see other community groups benefit from their building. The Senior Citizens group plan to end the association as soon as the building is transferred.
The Rotary Club already use the building for meetings and intend to take over the building and make it available for hire for weddings and for use by other community organisations that do not have their own premises. This will allow the continued use of a key community asset in the heart of the Tongariro Domain.
