One dead in fatal house fire
A man is dead after a fatal house fire near Taihape last night.
Emergency services were called to the house on Micklesons Road at Utiku, between Taihape and Mangaweka, shortly before 11pm last night,
When fire crews arrived the house was fully ablaze, a northern Fire Service communications spokesman said.
A woman outside the house told firefighters there was someone still inside, and a man was found dead inside shortly after midnight.
Extra crews and appliances were called in to assist.
Fire safety and police are investigating.
