Car crashes after police pursuit

Police attempted to pull a new model Audi over on Hewletts Road just after 3am.
When police activated their lights and sirens the vehicle sped off, turning left into Totara Street reaching speeds of 130kmh.

The chase ended soon after when the vehicle crashed into a power box and building near the roundabout at Hull Road.
The male was uninjured in the crash and was arrested, the male was twice over the legal breath alcohol limit.
The man will appear in Tauranga District Court on Thursday charged with dangerous driving, failing to remain stopped for an enforcement officer, failing to stop and having an excess breath alcohol after blowing 924 milligrams which is more than twice the legal limit of 400mcg.
