Advertising stunt causes stir

An advertising publicity stunt has caused a stir in Paeroa this morning after residents woke to the sight of a Whittaker's delivery van crashed into the iconic L&P Bottle.

A still from the video on the Whittaker's Facebook Page
Council workers had to clean up the trail of debris and damage to the garden this morning after an advertising stunt by Whittaker's Chocolate.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning according to local residents who posted photos to social media sites of the Whittaker's Chocolate delivery van up against the side of the L&P bottle.

Hauraki Mayor John Tregidga initially reacted to the stunt saying he was "wasn't impressed at all" to hear that the bottle had been hit.

Later it was revealed Tregidga played dumb as he had known it was a publicity stunt.

''There's no damage to the bottle. I've been given assurances," Tregidga said.

Whittaker's L&P Chocolate
''They've asked me to just act dumb. They don't want me rubbishing it.''

Whittaker's Chocolate are releasing a new flavour chocolate 'Whittaker's L&P Chocolate' which is set to hit the shelves this Wednesday.

Apparent CCTV footage emerged on 'Whittaker's Chocolate Lovers' Facebook page this morning showing footage from a local petrol station of the van turning off the road into the bushes and colliding with the bottle.
