Hamilton community grants open

Hamilton groups can now apply for a grant to support delivery of community-focussed events.

Hamilton City Council’s Event Sponsorship (Community) Fund makes grants of up to $5000 for events with a targeted attendance of 1000 or more people, says Social Development Manager Andy Mannering.

"This fund demonstrates Council’s support for community events and reflects our various city-wide strategies," Mr Mannering says.

"It’s intended to help with the creation and strengthening of innovative, free

or low-cost, high-profile community activities. The primary aim of providing sponsorship to these community events is to support diversity in Hamilton through added entertainment and activity within the city."

In 2012, Council made 15 grants from the fund, contributing support to sports tournaments, performances and cultural events and youth-focussed activities.

Criteria and guidelines for the Event Sponsorship (Community) Fund can be found on Council’s website - www.hamilton.co.nz - on the Community Development page, under "Community Funding: Grant Information and Resources."

Applications must be in 5pm on Friday, 16 August.
