Brian Brake's Kawerau exhibition to go on show in new Exhibition centre

Photographs of the Kawerau Tasman pulp and paper mill from the 80's are expected to go on show in the new Exhibition centre in Whakatane.

The Tasman Years  is a series of photographs from well know documentary photographer Brian Brake of the mill in its booming days.

Brake was commissioned to take a series of photographs at the Tasman pulp and paper mill in Kawerau around 1980's following soon after a period of industrial unrest.

Councils Arts and Culture manager Wayne Marriott has been working on the exhibition of photographs for the last couple of years and says this is something unique and interesting for all of the community to come and see.

"This exhibition is a showcase of the town, the mill and the people back in the days. Their are some awesome photographs and im sure some memories with in them all" Wayne says.

"Come and see a work of art, memories and a showcase of local history from a place we all hear about and see just down the road"

The exhibition will take place in the new Opus Gallery in the new Library and Exhibition centre  that was officially opened to the public today.
