Cooper takes out Tarawera 100

The roaring sounds of hundreds of dirt bikes echoed from the hills above Te Teko at the weekend.

On Saturday over 200 Motor X riders took to the hills above Te Teko in the 2012 Tony Rees Honda Tarawera 100.

Riders of all ages and skills from all over New Zealand and Bay of Plenty took part in the popular event.

Mount Maunganui's Cody Cooper, 23,  took out the annual event coming in at first place with the fastest time of 3:15:33.397.

Born in Mount Maunganui, Cooper started racing at age four. In 1994 he claimed his first New Zealand Junior Motocross Title and repeated the effort in 1995.

The 23-year-old says it is an honour to win such an awesome event.

"The weather, with no wind and awesome riding all come together to help me win today" He says.

"This is an awesome track, awesome event and i look forward to coming back next year."

Hamiltos Darryll King took out second place with a time of 3:17:27.592

Organisers of the event say the event has been one of the best so far and they are very pleased with the day and look forward to an even better event next year.
