Police chase ends in crash

Tauranga Police would like to speak to two people after they fled a vehicle after a police pursuit

The incident occurred at about 4.30pm yesterday afternoon when police went to an address in the Ohauiti suburb of Tauranga to speak with a person wanted for courts warrants.

Upon arriving  a vehicle was seen decamping the address at high speed. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful and pursued the vehicle. Police later lost sight of the white Subaru. 

A Northern communications spokes person said they received a call aproximately 10minutes following the units loosing sight of the vehicle that a car matching the similar description had been involved in a crash approximately 10km on a rural road from the Ohauiti address. 

The White Subaru with three occupants crashed into a bank and the driver and a passenger fled from the scene.

Police said the passenger who remained at the scene refused to  give any information. 


A Witness on the scene told The Bop Live all she saw was a white car go flying past and then she heard a big bang. 

"I was just watering the garden when I saw a car go flying up our road at high speed and then all of a sudden just a loud skidding noise then 'bang'" She said. 

Tauranga Police dog unit was called in to assist with the search of the offenders who decamped after the car crashed but was unsuccessful.
