Man crashes into cafe

A man was taken to Whakatane Hospital yesterday afternoon after he crashed into a cafe in Ohope.

The crash happened just before 5pm  when the ute he was driving  crashed into the Quay Cafe on Puhutukawa Avenue in Ohope.

A witness who  only wanted to be known as 'Christina' said she  was walking back to her car from the beach when all of a sudden she heard a big loud bang and a scream.

A  Fire communications spokes person says emergency services from Whakatane and Ohope attended the crash.

Whakatane Police are investigating the crash.
