Thunderstorm warning in place

A severe thunderstorm warning has been put in place for the upper North Island.
MetService have put in place a warning for the following areas reporting a moderate risk of thunderstorms and heavy rain in Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Waitomo, Taranaki, northern Gisborne, Buller and Nelson.
MetService Communications and media meteorologist Dan Corbett say's tornadoes are possible but unlikely.
Some tornado activity on land and sea is possible during thunderstorms but the main risk is heavy hail and rain.
Earlier today two water spouts were seen in the Maukau Harbour earlier this afternoon.
