Large quake south of Wellington

A large quake has shook central New Zealand this morning.

The quake measuring 5.7 on the richter scale struck at 9.06am this morning, the quake was 8km deep and centred 30km east of Seddon.

Office workers in Wellington Central City sheltered under desks when the quake struck, people reported buildings swaying as a sharp jolt hit the capital.

People in Blenheim reported feeling two shakes.

Numerous aftershocks have been reported since the 5.7 quake but there has been no reports of damage.

Over 6000 people have reported to of felt the quake.

The quake was felt as far north as Auckland and as far south as Invercargill.
