Serious crash near Piha
At 6:15pm this evening emergency services responded to a car v car, motor vehicle crash, on Piha Road, Piha.
One of the occupants was trapped and has sustained serious life threatening injuries. This person has been flown, by the Westpact Rescue helicopter, to Auckland Hospital, status 1.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is attending and investigating the crash.
Diversions are in place at the following locations:
(1) Piha and Lone Kauri Roads
(2) Piha and Anawhata Roads.
The diversions will remain in place until further notice. Police advise motorists to avoid the area and to take alternative routes.
