Two dead after crash in Northland (Update)
Two people are dead and five are injured after a four-vehicle crash north of Whangarei in Northland this afternoon.
The accident happened just before 3.30PM at Whakapara, south of the intersection of Waiotu Block Road and State Highway 1.
Police confirmed two people had died.
A rescue helicopter has been sent to the scene and fire fighters were working on extracting the deceased, north Fire Service communications tweeted.
Traffic diversions are in place.
