Home invasion trio named

The three men who broke into a Welcome Bay home while the family slept have been named.

Shelden Chapman, 22, James Teahu Tane Meldrum, 20, and Corey Chapman, 18, from Welcome Bay appeared in the Tauranga District Court this morning charged with aggravated burglary, assault and threatening to kill and attempting to unlawfully take a motor vehicle.

The three men entered the Korean families residence on Waipuna Grove off Kaitemako road at 4am on Sunday Morning.

Father Hyung Taek, 45 and his wife and two children were asleep at the time, Hyung was assaulted by the three men also threatening to kill him.

The offenders stole a sum of money plus jewelery before attempting to steal the families Honda Odyssey parked on the driveway.

The three men the fled on foot while the family called the police.

When police arrived one of the offenders was located by the police dog unit nearby and the other two men were located at a nearby adress on Waipuna Grove where they all live.

Community Magistrate Lesley Jensen remanded the trio in custody until next Monday, June 17.
